Between the census of 2020 and the census of 2025, the number of children in the US declined by 2.4%.
More telling is the 7% drop in kids under 5, since 2016. If this trend continues, that means school class sizes will shrink (until they consolidate with any appropriate nearby school), or the number of classes are reduced (although there are practical limits to that, with removal of particular topics unlikely).
Kindergartens will of course suffer. Staff in these fields will be made redundant, although if that means only retaining the best performing, that could be seen as a plus.
School premises are hard to repurpose, but I would think they could make good community centres, community colleges or retraining schools for people who have lost work due to AI.
